Pierre Charles L'Enfant Memorial Meta-Map
What is it?
A meta-map is a method for creating maps. One meta-map can construct many actual maps. The Pierre Charles L'Enfant Memorial Meta Map is a system of map-building for the Washington DC area, based on the plan of the city's architect. At a time when the area between Alexandria and Georgetown was mostly swampland, L'Enfant had a vision of a great capital with a million people living in it. Depending on your perspective, it took between 100 and 200 years for his vision to be realized. This map is intended to memorialize the grandiosity of vision of L'Enfant and to be a monument in general to the idea of artists' ability to create great works in the real world with their minds.

The PCLMM is based on the Geometron language, documented elsewhere. The core facts from which the meta-map is grown are as follows:

  1. The center of the Map is the location of the Washington Monument, called (0,0)
  2. All distances are in units of the Washington Monument(555 feet)
  3. Positions and artworks are all constructed using relative geometric actions described using the Geometron language
